Location

Parameter: Location
Short description: Stores in the Notes client notes.ini the name of the currently active Location document from the local names.nsf. The value is updated automatically when the Location is switched via the status bar in the Notes client.

Description

The Notes client stores in Location= the name of the currently active Location document from the local contacts database (names.nsf). Connection, mail, and replication settings are kept in the Location document itself; Location= is only the reference to the document that is currently active.
The value is updated automatically when the Location is switched via the status bar selector (Location menu) in the Notes client. For roaming users, HCL can synchronize the current Location across multiple clients via the roaming profile.

Notes

  • The actual settings associated with Location= (mail server, mail file, internet browser, replication options, web retriever, Java applet security, ports, etc.) are stored in the corresponding Location document in the local names.nsf (see HCL Notes „How can I customize location settings?“).
  • Manual editing in notes.ini is not recommended — the Location should be switched via the Notes client so all dependent values stay consistent.
  • For roaming users, the current Location setting can be synchronized across multiple clients via Domino policies (HCL Domino 11.0.1 „Enabling the current Location setting to roam for new Notes client setup“).
  • On new clients, Location values and entire Location documents can be pre-populated via desktop policies (HCL KB0032747).
